Nature Walks

Join Wildlife Queensland Fraser Coast Branch for our March Nature Walk at the Takura Environmental Reserve.

About Takura Environmental Reserve

The elevated site of the 60-hectare property on the ridgeline on Barnett Road, Takura provides views of the surrounding countryside to K’gari (Fraser Island) and joins nearby state government reserves.

It includes 25 ha of eucalypt forest and rainforest which is a great representation of the original vegetation that once covered large parts of the Fraser Coast.

The remaining 35 ha area consists of land cleared for grazing which will be replanted.

About three kilometres of walking trails have been developed through the remnant vegetation on the reserve, providing an opportunity to see swamp wallabies, scrub turkeys and echidna.

Interpretive signs have also been installed to outline environmental values such as ecological processes, specialised plant and animal relationships, and the history of the environmental reserve.
