Friends of Parks Queensland invites you to an exciting afternoon filled with guided walks, informative talks, citizen science activities, and networking opportunities.

Set against the backdrop of David Fleay’s Wildlife Park, nestled on Kombumerri Country in the heart of the Gold Coast, this event promises to showcase the remarkable diversity of the greater Burleigh area’s flora and fauna. Embrace the chance to actively participate in Friends of Parks Queensland’s new citizen science project, while gaining insights from seasoned experts on our region’s rarest species.

Here’s what you can look forward to:

  • Welcome to Country and cultural talk from a Kombumerri Traditional Owner
  • Wildlife ambassador presentation by the knowledgeable Fleay’s Wildlife Park staff
  • An introduction to local Friends of Parks groups – Friends of Tallebudgera Creek Conservation Park and Friends of Burleigh Head National Park
  • Informative botanical talk and walk, highlighting local threatened species
  • Inspirational talks by the Richmond Birdwing Butterfly Conservation network as they share their conservation success story
  • A hands-on citizen science survey among the mangroves
  • A threatened glider presentation & optional nocturnal animal spotlight.

  • A moderate level of physical fitness is required

What to bring:

  • Enclosed footwear is a must
  • Long pants, insect repellent, a hat, and water bottle for the walks
  • A mobile phone with the iNaturalist app installed
  • A torch if you are joining us for spotlighting

Light refreshments are provided. This event is free, however places are limited. Please reserve your spot by booking through HumaniTix. Registered attendees will receive the runsheet and meeting point via email.
