Celebrating our volunteers: National Volunteer Week 2020

18 May 2020

National Volunteer WeekRunning from 18-24 May, National Volunteer Week is an annual celebration to acknowledge the generous contribution that volunteers make to our community.

This year’s theme is “Changing Communities. Changing Lives”.

Whilst COVID-19 restrictions mean that National Volunteer Week is being celebrated a little differently this year, from online events and virtual morning teas to social media ‘thank you’ waves, one thing remains unchanged – our volunteers are changing communities and changing lives for the better!

Thank you to our volunteers!

Wildlife Queensland simply wouldn’t exist without volunteers. The not-for-profit Society began as a volunteer organisation and volunteers remain at the very heart and soul of everything we do.

“Wildlife Queensland was founded, fostered and promoted by volunteers giving of their time and passion. When Don Henry was appointed Director in March 1982 the situation did not change then nor has it changed today. Wildlife Queensland would not be the organisation it is without the efforts of, and the reliance on, our volunteers.”  ͟͟   Des Boyland, Policies and Campaigns Manager, Wildlife Queensland

From baking, administration, customer support and events to surveys, policy work and project assistance, our volunteers work tirelessly and bring a sense of fun, community and a love of the environment and its wildlife to everything they do.

“Providing volunteers with opportunities to be a part of wildlife conservation is a large part of why we exist; it is all about sparking interest and empowering our supporters to do their little bit for wildlife.”  ͟͟   Matt Cecil, Projects Manager, Wildlife Queensland

In recognition of National Volunteer Week, we’re profiling some of our amazing volunteers. View their profiles here.
