WPSQ presents Peter Garrett on Why It Matters – October 2016

After a challenging year financially, Wildlife Queensland is looking forward to ending 2016 on a positive note with an evening of drinks, dinner and conservation featuring none other than environmentalist, activist, former politician and Australian music legend, Peter Garrett AM.

“I’ve long admired the Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland who works on the front line of environment issues for the whole community. Healthy environments are crucial for a healthy future so supporting WPSQ is more important than ever,” said Garrett, who was quick to accept the Society’s invitation to act as guest speaker on the night.

“Lack of financial support by all governments in concert with fierce competition for scarce donation dollars is challenging Wildlife Queensland’s long-term existence,” said Wildlife Queensland President Peter Ogilvie.

“Advocating the protection of our native plants and animals, and undertaking relevant on-ground activities, are important and costly organisational goals. We are extremely grateful to Peter Garrett for offering to share his knowledge and extensive experience in nature conservation and environmental protection,” he said.

Held at Riverside Receptions on Brisbane’s riverfront in New Farm on 19 November, Why It Matters with Peter Garrett will raise awareness and much-needed funds for wildlife conservation in Queensland while treating WPSQ members, supporters and the wider community to a 2-course dinner with one of Australia’s most prominent environmental advocates.

With the comeback of his rock band Midnight Oil on the horizon, Garrett’s willingness to give his time to this comparatively humble event confirms that when it comes to conservation, for this former President of the Australian Conservation Foundation and Minister for the Environment, it still matters.

And with titles on his freshly released, first solo studio album A Version of Now such as ‘Tall Trees’, ‘Kangaroo Tail’, ‘Great White Shark’ and ‘I’d Do It Again’, Garrett clearly still has a lot to say about what matters most.

In the closing song on the album, ‘It Still Matters’, Garrett urges his audience to “stay strong, heed the call” and assures them “it still matters to me”.  Wildlife Queensland’s dinner guests in November will have the chance to hear why from the man himself.

Tickets for Why It Matters with Peter Garrett are selling fast as news of the event spreads across social media and between like-minded supporters of the worthy cause. Seats and tables are still available – BOOK YOURS NOW!

With all proceeds going to our conservation works, Wildlife Queensland looks forward to seeing you there and thanks you in advance for supporting what truly matters when it comes to a healthy future.
