Wildlife Queensland Townsville outing — Palmetum

21 April, 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Free
Paletum

Join Wildlife Queensland Townsville Branch for an outing to explore Townsville’s renowned botanical garden, Palmetum, preceded by a brief AGM.

Covering almost 17 hectares, the Palmetum offers a diverse array of habitats suitable for flora ranging from dry tropics to wet tropical lowlands. Alongside the recreated habitat types, expansive lawns and water features attract numerous bird species.

After our exploration, enjoy a laid-back meal at the cafe and tea room, set amidst Palmetum’s picturesque vistas.

Meeting place & time:

  • Meet at 9 am at the Palmetum Savannah shelter: This large roofed shelter (approx 12m x 5m) is located near the far end of the lagoon. Open on all sides, it features bench seats around the perimeter.
  • Enter via the main gate, turn right, and walk behind the tea rooms to find the concrete path through the Savannah Zone. Follow that path around to the Savannah shelter (see red line in the attached map).
  • In dry conditions, it’s possible to veer off the path and take a shortcut across the grass, but that route will be squelchy if there’s been enough rain.

What to bring: Water, snacks (if patronizing the Tea Rooms doesn’t appeal), shoes suitable for walking on potentially wet ground, hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, and bird-watching gear.
