Join Friends of Nerang National Park for their new style of event: WALK AND WEED. These events are a blend of a tour, citizen science, and bush regeneration.

What to expect:
A blend of a tour, citizen science, and bush regeneration. You’ll get to explore lesser-known areas of Nerang National Park (Kombumerri Country) with a knowledgeable host, logging species data and removing weeds as you go!

There are two options/two different walks for this event:
1. Walk and Weed: Plant ID

Citizen Science focus. Best suited to those who have some plant identification experience and want to learn more. Attendees of this walk will help us log species information in lesser-documented areas of the Park. A high level of physical fitness is required & some weeds will be removed during the walk. The group leader is Jacob White, a botanist with ecological restoration experience and outstanding plant identification skills. If you’re fit and want to dive deeper into the world of plants, this walk is for you!

2. Walk and Weed: Weed Removal

Bush Regeneration focus. Best suited to those who are new to plant identification. This focus is on learning basic plant identification skills while removing small patches of weeds. We encourage the documentation of plants with the iNaturalist phone app. A moderate-to-high level of physical fitness is required. Friends of Nerang National Park will be leading this walk. If you’re relatively new to plant ID, want to get stuck in to some weeds, and have a moderate-to-high level of fitness, this is the walk for you!

What to bring:

  • Enclosed, supportive footwear
  • Sun-protective clothing (long-sleeved shirt, hat)
  • Long pants to avoid bites and scratches
