Collecting observation data from public sightings is an important method of acquiring distribution data for our native wildlife. However, the difficulty lies within the reporting. How do you capture that platypus or quoll sighting? Wildlife Queensland has been working to make this a more efficient and reliable process.
With incredible support from Gruntify (Queensland owned and operated mobile data management and program development company), Wildlife Queensland will soon have its own mobile data collection app (for smart phone or tablet) and online portal for members and the public to use in recording key wildlife sightings. The mobile app, aptly named WildInSight, will allow the user to upload images, record a GPS location, complete basic data entry and take notes.
Soon to be accessible through the App Store or Google Play for mobile devices, or via a website for use on PC, WildInSight will streamline and significantly improve WPSQ’s ability to receive public sightings data and monitor wildlife distribution across the state. Stay tuned for the launch of WildInSight!
