Bring back the Richmond birdwing butterfly

Don’t let them drift away forever

Have you seen a Richmond birdwing butterfly? Sadly many people never have.

Remnant colonies of the threatened Richmond birdwing butterfly are small and isolated. This beautiful, unique subtropical butterfly is on the verge of extinction.

There is one special plant the butterfly depends on, without which the butterfly cannot breed. This native vine called Pararistolochia praevenosa, is better known as the birdwing butterfly vine.

The solution is simple, we need more of these special vines.

Support our project to strategically plant more vines to strengthen and link corridors of existing butterfly populations and ensure it’s survival.

Symbolically ‘adopt’ a Richmond Birdwing Butterfly with a $60 tax deductible donation.

‘ADOPT A Richmond birdwing butterfly’

Join this program and you will be supporting our work for the survival of Richmond birdwing butterflies and other endangered species and their habitat.

‘Adopt’ a Richmond birdwing butterfly? How?

For a donation of $60 or more you can symbolically ‘adopt’ the animal for one year.

What do I receive?

If you choose, we will send you an information pack about your ‘adopted’ animal to share with your family and friends.

The information pack about Richmond birdwing butterflies and how to support the species in Queensland will include

  • a personalised adoption certificate
  • colour brochure with information on Richmond birdwing butterfly ecology, habitat and conservation
  • Informative fact sheets
  • Richmond birdwing butterfly postcard
  • Richmond birdwing butterfly magnet

Where does my money go?

Donations to the ‘Adopt a Richmond birdwing butterfly’ program fund conservation of and research into the endangered Richmond birdwing butterfly. Because your adoption is symbolic we can use it to support habitat as well as running community awareness programs on Richmond birdwing butterflies, identifying and addressing threats to them, and carrying out on-ground survey work.

We will keep you up to date with how our Richmond birdwing butterfly projects are progressing by sending you regular project e-newsletters plus Wildlife Queensland’s regular monthly my.Wildlife ebulletin.

Is my ‘adoption’ payment tax deductible?
