Happy #worldbeeday 🐝 Bees and other pollinato Happy #worldbeeday 🐝

Bees and other pollinators are increasingly under threat from human activities. Pollination is, however, a fundamental process for the survival of our ecosystems. Nearly 90% of the world’s wild flowering plant species depend, entirely, or at least in part, on animal pollination, along with more than 75% of the world’s food crops and 35% of global agricultural land.

‘Safeguarding bees safeguards biodiversity’!

Here are some ways to help protect bees and support beekeeping:

🌸 Plant a diverse set of native plants, which flower at different times of the year.
🍯 Buy raw honey from local farmers.
💚 Buy products from sustainable agricultural practices.
⚠️ Avoid pesticides, fungicides or herbicides in your gardens.
🐝 Protect wild bee colonies when possible.
🏡 Sponsor a hive.

Keeping stingless bees is easy!
Join Wildlife Queensland Bayside Branch on 3 June for an expert talk on how to introduce the native stingless bee to your garden and reap the benefits of pollinating your plants. Includes a hive set-up demonstration. Register for free 👉 https://bit.ly/3sIhq8w

Sunshine Coast wildlife is the winner in the recen Sunshine Coast wildlife is the winner in the recent announcement that Yurol Ringtail State Forest will be revegetated and become part of Tewantin National Park. 🏞🐨

Working collaboratively, the Kabi Kabi People Aboriginal Corporation, Greenfleet Australia and Noosa and District Landcare Group (NDLG) will be tasked with revegetating native flora in the former plantation forest — especially koala-specific eucalypts to encourage these iconic but endangered marsupials to take up residence.

Full credit to the team at @landcarenoosa and their project partners for making this happen,’ said Des Boyland, Wildlife Queensland’s Policies and Campaigns Manager. ‘Wildlife Queensland has been demanding that the State Government rapidly increase the Protected Area Estate to reach the promised 17% for some time now, understanding that if the Beattie Labor Government’s former promise was honoured, all state forest would be national park by 2024.’

Happy #WorldMigratoryBirdDay!🌏 @worldmigratory Happy #WorldMigratoryBirdDay!🌏

@worldmigratorybirdday is a call to action for international migratory bird conservation, celebrated on the second Saturday in May and October, in recognition of the cyclical nature of bird migration and the different peak migration periods in the northern and southern hemispheres.

The theme for this World Migratory Bird Day is "Dim the Lights for Birds at Night”, which aims to raise awareness of the threat of light pollution and the importance of dark skies to bird migrations.

Get involved today and support the campaign to #savetoondahharbour to help protect one of Australia's most important migratory shorebird feeding and breeding habitats from the proposed development of 3,600 high-rise apartments.

Fun and educational activities included a Welcome to County by Adrian Bauwens, guest presentations by QGN Project Officer Paul Revie and Jessica Lovegrove-Walsh from @nerangnationalpark, an engaging native animal presentation by Martin Fingland from Geckoes Wildlife, and cultural dance by the fantastic Nunukul Yuggera Aboriginal Dance Company (pictured and check out our reels), as well as an optional spotlighting tour around Dingo Mountain.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this fabulous day!

Happy Mother's Day to all the mums out there! ❤️

This gorgeous Papuan Frogmouth and her baby were spotted by @lidostudio.photography at Kutini-Payamu (Iron Range) National Park (Cape York Peninsula Aboriginal Land) in Far North Queensland, showing off their incredible camouflage skills which, as you can see here, makes them very hard to spot! When threatened/not wanting to be seen, this master of disguise will remain motionless and often perch with their head held upwards, to appear like a tree stump or branch.

The Papuan Frogmouth (Podargus papuensis) is the largest species of frogmouth. Similar to the Tawny Frogmouth, the easiest way to distinguish a Papuan Frogmouth from other Frogmouths is its large red eyes and bulbous bill.

If you forget to get your Mum a little something this weekend, get yourself back in her good books with a belated purchase from our online store 👉

Campaigns for the upcoming 2022 Federal Election o Campaigns for the upcoming 2022 Federal Election on Saturday 21 May have passed the halfway mark. 🪧

Given the widely reported faunal extinction crisis facing Australia, you might think the major political parties would be keen to outline strategies and earmark significant, essential increases in funding to arrest the crisis and reverse the trend. Not so, writes Wildlife Queensland Policies and Campaigns Manager Des Boyland.
