A very important message from #platypuswatchnetwor A very important message from #platypuswatchnetwork projects officer @platypus_protector who is currently conducting platypus eDNA tests in the Dawson River, near Taroom.

As you can see, Tamielle found an unidentified illegal opera house net in the Dawson River - where platypuses are known to be. These enclosed nets are death traps for aquatic wildlife!

🔗Please head to link in our bio 👆to find out more and support our campaign to ban opera house nets in Queensland.

This will be the second year of sampling to map out the distribution of platypuses in the western region.

Fingers crossed for some platypus spotting again in Castle Creek, Theodore! 🤞

Wildlife galore in the Scenic Rim! 🙌 Wildlife Wildlife galore in the Scenic Rim! 🙌

Wildlife Queensland's intrepid projects officer Paul Revie spent four days in @visitscenicrim last week setting up cameras on four properties at Carneys Creek and Mount Barney to survey for quolls as part of a @scenicrimrc Land for Wildlife survey project.

Paul also surveyed the area for gliders and brush-tailed rock-wallabies, spotting an amazing array of fluffers and furbies, including:

🦘 2 brush-tailed rock-wallabies at Carneys Creek, near the southern part of Main Range National Park
😀 3 greater gliders in previously burnt areas of Main Range National Park around Spicers Gap (also a yellow-bellied glider was heard).

@yellowbelliedgliderproject no doubt about it, SEQ @yellowbelliedgliderproject no doubt about it, SEQ gliders definitely have bigger, FLUFFIER ears 😍😍

Posted @withregram • @yellowbelliedgliderproject Our good friend @owlcaholic_ spotted these 2 cuties over the weekend. A perfect example of the different colour morphs in the Southern Greater Gliders. #greaterglider @wildlifequeensland Is it just me or do our SEQLD Greater Gliders have bigger ears than their southern counterparts??

An exciting find by Josh @yellowbelliedgliderproje An exciting find by Josh @yellowbelliedgliderproject 🙌. Five #yellowbelliedglider feed trees in a new location!! We can’t wait to see some of the inhabitants ❤️

Posted @withregram • @yellowbelliedgliderproject I had an amazing day yesterday finding 5 feed trees in close proximity to each other. I have attached photos of some of the classic V cuts made by the gliders.

After deploying some audiomoths on a property I went to check an area I was always interested in but have never had the time to look in. Slowly driving while looking at the trees as I do, and finding somewhere to pull over, I spotted a suspicious row of markings on a Grey Gum.

My heart began racing, I managed to find a spot to park up, I scrambled up the hill, got close to the tree and well as you can see I found a new YBG spot in SEQLD. I will monitor this site now and see how active it is.

Happy #frogfriday from this stunning red-eyed tree Happy #frogfriday from this stunning red-eyed tree frog (Ranoidea chloris)… also known as the orange-eyed tree frog 🐸

This large species of frog reaches up to 6.5 cm in body length. It’s fingers are three-quarters webbed and toes are nearly fully webbed. Found on the east coast of Australia, from Mackay in Queensland down to Gosford in New South Wales.

🦸Super power: Has the ability to change skin colour to match its environment.

How one man's Black Saturday experience ended up h How one man's Black Saturday experience ended up helping Wildlife Queensland.

What you may already know is that our friends at Goodwill Wine donate 50% of their profits to us, and thanks to our supporter's love for nice wines we have already raised $876.

What you may not know, is why they do this. Profound experiences have a way of changing people's lives, and the story of what happened to the founder of Goodwill Wine on Black Saturday is a wonderful example of how community goodwill can drive an individual to pay it forward.

The time to say NO to bars taking over our natural The time to say NO to bars taking over our natural beaches in Queensland is now! 🍾🚫

The pop-up beach bar on the sand at Kurrawa Beach on Queensland's Gold Coast may stay for another three years and the event would be an ongoing set-up after that if a full council votes in favour of the extension on 14 June. This may lead to other shops littering our beaches and even multiplying on other pristine beaches in our State ... UNLESS we act before and on 14 June!

🎗️ Join Wildlife Queensland Gold Coast & Hinterland members at Gold Coast City Council Chambers, 135 Bundall Road, Surfers Paradise on Tuesday 14 June at 8.00 am (or as soon as possible thereafter) and stand in peaceful, socially distanced solidarity to defend our beaches from commercial exploitation.

📧 Send politicians a message that our beaches aren’t for sale. Email Mayor Tom Tate at: Mayor@goldcoast.qld.gov.au and send a letter to the Gold Coast Bulletin: letters@goldcoast.com.au to demand beach bars on the sand are banned.

Happy #wildlifewednesday and first day of winter!🧥

This month is an exciting time for wildlife activities and events in Queensland, with dwarf minke whales frolicking at Ribbon Reef, the start of humpback whale season, and echidnas getting ready to board the luuurve train! 💕

Here at Wildlife Queensland we also love June as it's the start of our annual PlatypusWatch Network platypus environmental DNA (eDNA) surveys in waterways across greater Brisbane.🙌 This year - our seventh year of eDNA surveys - we will be sampling 60 sites across four Local Government Areas. This year’s sampling is important after the flooding events. We can see if populations have been impacted as well as the damage to habitats. Stay tuned for #platypuswatchnetwork updates coming soon!

There's also a great lineup of Wildlife Queensland (and affiliated) nature and wildlife events this month, including:

🌲1-30 June: The @sunshinecoastenvirocouncil 42nd annual @wedfestival .
🐝 3 June: Stingless bees talk with Wildlife Queensland Bayside Branch.
🏞️ 4 June: @geckoenvironmentcouncil Forum on National Parks and Eco-tourism.
🌲4 June: Environment and Community Fair, @indigiscapes with Wildlife Queensland Bayside Branch.
🦇5 June: #worldenvironmentday at the Cairns Bat Festival.

And lots more! Head to our What’s On Calendar page for more information and events: https://wildlife.org.au/whats-on-page/

Last but not least, June is the time when you can help secure a future for wildlife by making a tax-deductible donation to our Wildlife Queensland EOFY Appeal: https://bit.ly/3yGdlpc. Your support is crucial for maintaining our ability to speak out for species such as the endangered spotted-tailed quoll, the Richmond birdwing butterfly, the yellow-bellied glider and greater glider, the iconic platypus – and more.
