Cicada Film Festiva

The Cicada Film Festival (formerly the Cicada Awards) is an annual short film competition open to South-East Queensland youth, up to and including 24 years of age. It was initiated by the Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland Bayside Branch in 2011. In 2014 it was joined by Ocean Ark Alliance, and in 2019 by Ocean Crusaders (the Organisers).

Meetings and activities

Bayside Branch hosts monthly meetings with expert guest presenters, conducts a variety of workshops throughout the year and arranges family outings such as spotlighting, bushwalks, birdwatching and an annual cruise in Moreton Bay.

All these activities aim to be both fun and educational. Members also participate in bushcare groups.

Bayside Branch also promotes:

  • community-based fauna and flora surveys, including curlew and dugong surveys
  • a long-term program to map and monitor seagrass habitats.
