Hunting of duck and quail banned for good

Wildlife Queensland congratulates Desley Boyle, Minister for Environment and the Beattie Government on their decision to stop recreational hunting of duck and quail forever.

"Amendments to the Nature Conservation Act will ensure ducks, quails and any unfortunate animals that get in the sights of recreational shooters no longer will meet an untimely and inhumane death" said Des Boyland, Wildlife Queensland's policies and campaigns manager.

"The members and supporters of Wildlife Queensland thank Desley Boyle for a wise and prudent decision. With over 5000 postcards on the issue reaching the Government, it clearly demonstrates that the Beattie Government does listen to the people" stated Des Boyland.

"Furthermore the staff of the Environmental Protection Agency can now use their time far more effectively. They can concentrate on protecting wildlife year in year out rather than administering and designing programs to kill these animals three months of the year."

"Wildlife Queensland is indebted to Ronan Lee, Member for Indooroopilly for his encouragement, assistance and wise counsel during the campaign. Ronan's care for the environment has been clearly demonstrated yet again" said Des Boyland.
