The Townsville branch has a strong interest in local issues particularly the protection of Hinchinbrook Islands and surrounds, coastal and rainforest protection, Dugong and Turtle conservation, Mahogany Glider conservation, protection of coastal lowland woodlands and urban issues.

They are represented on the Townsville Industrial Lands Project Community Reference Group. They have particular expertise in birds of North Queensland, rainforest mammals, dugong biology, flora of dry tropics, and North Queensland butterflies and reptiles.
