Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland, Far North Queensland Branch

The Far Northern branch has particular interest in endangered species, cassowaries, dugongs, frogs and bats of the far north. There are moves to put the Spectacled Flying Fox on the endangered list by Environment Australia. However, there is a lot of pressure from fruit growers to use destructive control measures.

There is also interest in development proposals of resort/residential in sensitive areas, eg. Taylor Point issues are alive again with new players. Marine park issues also will be considered when the Far Northern section Rezoning is released. The branch is represented on a variety of groups in the area: Wilderness Society, Birds Australia, CAFNEC, Savannah CRC, and James Cook University.
